What the 2015 Tornado Left Behind - And Why It Matters for Your Roof
Fairdale was ground zero for the April 2, 2015 EF4 tornado that carved a path through this community, destroying or heavily damaging hundreds of homes along and near Manslick Road and in the neighborhoods east of Preston Highway. A large portion of the current housing stock was either rebuilt from scratch or received insurance-funded roof replacements in 2015 and 2016. Those roofs are now approaching their first major re-roofing cycle simultaneously, creating a concentrated wave of demand that is unique to ZIP code 40118.
Here is what we have learned from walking these roofs: many of the 2015 replacements were done by out-of-town storm-chaser contractors who moved on before the shingles had time to curl. We regularly find improperly spaced nails, missing drip edge, and underlayment that was never properly sealed along the eaves. Those defects are now showing up as premature blow-offs in the same southwest wind corridor that produced the original tornado. If your home was re-roofed in that 2015-2016 window, it is worth having a trained set of eyes check the workmanship before the next severe season.
Named for the ridge - the line where a roof proves itself. We intend to be in Fairdale for the long haul, not until the next storm chase.

Why Fairdale’s Climate & Housing Affect Roofing
Fairdale sits in the Louisville metro’s Ohio River valley corridor, which funnels severe convective storms straight into southwestern Jefferson County. The same geographic bowl that makes this area prone to tornadoes and hail also produces straight-line wind events that test every fastener on your roof. For the modest mid-20th-century ranch homes that dominate Fairdale, many with low-slope or shallow-pitch designs, this means two specific vulnerabilities: wind uplift along the eaves and ice dam formation in winter when meltwater hits the cold overhang.
Impact-resistant shingles and proper ice-and-water shield installation are not upsells here. They are sensible defenses against conditions that return every season. The split housing stock - original ranches with aging sheathing alongside newer post-2015 builds - means no two estimates should look identical. A roofer who treats Fairdale like a generic Louisville suburb will miss the details that determine whether your roof holds in the next storm.

Repairs make sense when damage is isolated to one area and your roof is under 15 years old. If your home was re-roofed after the 2015 tornado and is now showing widespread issues, replacement is often more economical than chasing leaks for the next decade. We offer free second opinions on any written estimate to help you weigh that decision. Call (844) 563-1816 to schedule an inspection.

Look for premature granule loss, shingles lifting along the southwest eaves, or water staining at the exterior walls - all signs we associate with the rushed post-tornado work we have found in Fairdale. Our inspections include photos of nail spacing, drip edge installation, and underlayment sealing. If you suspect your 2015 re-roof was done by a contractor who left town, call (844) 563-1816 for a documented assessment.

What Fairdale Customers Say
"Quality work on the repair. There were a few nails left in the driveway that the magnet missed, so check yours before you drive over it. Otherwise no complaints."
- Scott Barrett"Three cracked tiles and one that had slipped. Matched the tile, no color mismatch, half a day of work."
- Darius Prince"The leak over the kitchen turned out to be a cracked boot around a vent pipe, not the roof. He showed me the photo from up there and replaced the boot for a couple hundred dollars. The company before him had quoted a full tear off."
