Fast, Reliable Roof Replacement & Installation Across Elyria
A full roof replacement in Elyria typically runs $8,500-$18,000 for standard asphalt shingle jobs on the city’s modest working-class homes, with most projects completed in two to four days. Metal roofing starts around $14,000 and climbs from there depending on pitch complexity. We’re Ridgeline Roofing Co., and we’ve been replacing roofs in Lorain County since 2016 - long enough to know that Elyria’s lake-effect winters and legacy housing stock demand more than a standard shingle swap. Our Roof Replacement & Installation crews work throughout the 44035 and 44036 ZIP codes, and we answer our phones live at (844) 563-1816 every hour of every day.
Elyria sits in one of Ohio’s heaviest snow corridors. That matters when you’re choosing a roofer. We’ve stripped enough roofs near Middle Avenue, Gulf Road, and the older blocks off Lake Avenue to know the patterns: multiple shingle layers hiding rotted decking, attic hatches that vent directly into living rooms, ice dams that tear off gutters mid-February. This page explains what we’ve learned replacing roofs in Elyria specifically - not generic advice, but the real conditions your home faces.
Why Ridgeline Roofing Co. Is Elyria’s Preferred Roof Replacement & Installation Company
We’ve been in business since 2016. Over 10 years, we’ve watched storm-chasing contractors roll through Lorain County after every major weather event, then vanish before the shingles curl. We’re still here. Pete Navarro has led Ridgeline Roofing Co. since the beginning, and our crews live in the communities we serve - not motel rooms three states away.
Our 90-Day Done Right Promise is written, not spoken. If something isn’t right, we come back and make it right. No paperwork gauntlet, no voicemail tag, no arguing. The number on your estimate is the number on your invoice. We document every inspection with photos from your actual roof, not a sales pitch in your driveway. Every technician is background-checked and uniformed - the same standard we’d hold for work on our own mother’s home.
A live person answers every call, 24 hours a day, including the middle of a January ice storm when your ceiling stain is spreading. We’ve answered at 2 a.m. for Elyria homeowners whose ridge vents blew loose in lake-effect gusts during Emergency & Storm Damage in Elyria events. We’ll answer for you too.
Our Roof Replacement & Installation Services in Elyria
Full Roof Replacement
Most Elyria homes we replace were built between 1910 and 1955, when the city fed factories like American Brake Shoe and Bendix. These gable and hip roofs were framed with true dimensional lumber, not today’s engineered trusses, and they weren’t designed for modern insulation depths or ridge-to-soffit airflow. A full replacement on an Elyria legacy home isn’t just shingles. We strip to decking, assess rot from decades of ice-dam intrusion, and quote ventilation retrofits as standard - because without them, your new roof will face the same freeze-thaw damage as your old one.
On a 1940s gable-roofed home near the former American Brake Shoe plant on Middle Avenue, we stripped three layers of shingles - asphalt over original wood - and found decking rotted from decades of ice-dam seepage. Our crew replaced the decking with OSB, installed a full ridge-and-soffit ventilation system, and applied GAF Timberline HDZ shingles with a 9-foot ice-and-water shield at all eaves to handle Elyria’s lake-effect freeze-thaw cycles. That’s the level of work these homes need.
New Construction Roofing
New builds in Elyria’s developing areas near North Ridgeville and Avon borders get the same meticulous approach. We spec proper intake and exhaust ventilation from day one, sized to Lorain County’s snow loads. No shortcuts that become someone else’s emergency in fifteen years.
Asphalt Shingle Installation
Asphalt remains the practical choice for most Elyria homeowners, and we install GAF, CertainTeed, and Owens Corning lines with full manufacturer warranties. The key is matching the shingle to the application. In Elyria’s heavy, wet lake-effect snow, we prefer architectural-grade shingles with enhanced sealant strips and higher wind ratings - the freeze-thaw cycling here is harder on standard three-tabs than inland Ohio climates. We also extend ice-and-water shield well beyond code minimum at eaves, valleys, and penetrations. Code says two feet. We often run six to nine feet on Elyria’s older homes with chronic ice-dam history. Not as an upsell. As a necessity.
Metal Roofing
Metal roofing sheds snow fast, which sounds ideal for Elyria’s snowbelt conditions. And it can be - on homes with adequate pitch and proper underlayment. We install standing-seam and exposed-fastener systems where the structure and budget fit. Metal runs $14,000-$28,000+ in this market, roughly double comparable asphalt, but lifespan extends toward 50 years with minimal maintenance. The caveat: metal amplifies any underlying ventilation problem. On an unvented Elyria attic, condensation can form on the underside of metal panels. We assess your airflow before we quote metal. Done right, it’s excellent. Done wrong on a legacy home, it’s a moisture trap.

Trusted Brands We Service in Elyria
We’re authorized installers for seven manufacturer lines: GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, IKO, Atlas, Tamko, and Boral. For Elyria homeowners, that means genuine materials with full warranty backing - no gray-market substitutions. We stock common GAF and CertainTeed shingles regionally for faster turnaround on standard colors, and we order specialty products direct when your job calls for them. Pete Navarro has built relationships with distributor reps across northern Ohio since the 1980s. When a hard winter hits and everyone’s scrambling for ice-and-water shield, our supply lines hold.
Common Roof Replacement & Installation Problems We See in Elyria Homes
- Multiple layered shingles hide rotted decking from past ice-dam water intrusion. We’ve stripped roofs in Elyria with asphalt over wood over asphalt, each layer trapping moisture against decking that appeared sound from the street. Full strip and inspect is the only honest approach on these legacy homes.
- Shallow attic spaces with no ridge-to-soffit ventilation trap heat, melting snow from below and causing heavy ice dams. The roof deck stays warm, snow melts, water runs to the cold eave, and refreezes into a dam that lifts shingles and backs water into walls. We’ve seen gutters torn completely off from the weight.
- Old attic hatches that open into living spaces turn warm air directly onto the roof deck. In the older residential blocks near Elyria’s former industrial corridors, this configuration is so common that experienced local roofers quote ventilation retrofits as a near-automatic line item rather than an optional upgrade.
- Freeze-thaw cycling from November through late March accelerates granule loss and flashing fatigue. Elyria’s wet, dense lake-effect snow places higher dead loads on aging rooflines than drier inland snowfall, and the thermal expansion at chimney and vent flashings causes seal failures that standard caulk won’t fix long-term.

FAQs - Roof Replacement & Installation in Elyria
Elyria’s factory-worker housing stock was built from 1910 to 1955 with shallow attics and no ridge-to-soffit airflow design. Many have attic hatches opening directly into living spaces, which vents warm, moist house air straight onto the roof deck. In our lake-effect snowbelt, that melts snow from below, refreezes it at the eaves, and creates ice dams that destroy shingles and Gutters & Accessories - Elyria. Without fixing the ventilation, you’re replacing your roof into the same conditions that ruined the last one. Call (844) 563-1816 and we’ll assess your airflow during our free estimate.
We strip to bare decking, every time. We’ve found asphalt over wood over asphalt on homes near Middle Avenue and the older blocks off Lake Avenue. Each layer traps moisture. The only way to assess decking rot, install proper underlayment, and warranty the work is full removal. Our estimate includes disposal and decking replacement where we find soft or delaminated sections. Call (844) 563-1816 for an inspection - estimates are free.
We prefer GAF Timberline HDZ or CertainTeed Landmark architectural shingles for most Elyria homes. Both have enhanced sealant strips that resist wind uplift and thicker construction that handles thermal cycling better than three-tab shingles. The critical factor isn’t the shingle brand alone - it’s extending ice-and-water shield far beyond code minimum and fixing ventilation so the shingles aren’t fighting ice dams from day one. Call (844) 563-1816 and we’ll spec the right system for your roof.
Metal can perform well in heavy snow if the roof has adequate pitch and, critically, proper ventilation. It sheds snow fast, reducing load. But on an unvented Elyria attic, condensation can form on the underside of metal panels and cause moisture problems inside. We assess your airflow before quoting metal. For homes with good ventilation, standing-seam metal is a 40-50 year solution. For legacy homes with attic-hatch ventilation, we often recommend fixing the airflow first, then reconsidering metal. Call (844) 563-1816 and we’ll give you an honest assessment.
Because the roof surface isn’t the root cause. Ice dams form when warm roof decks melt snow that refreezes at cold eaves. If a roofer installs new shingles without addressing the ventilation that creates warm decks - the unvented attics, the attic hatches opening into living rooms, the blocked soffits - the ice dams return within a season or two. That’s why we quote ventilation retrofits as standard on Elyria’s older homes, not as an optional upsell. Done right, a new roof in Elyria includes airflow correction. Call (844) 563-1816 and we’ll show you what’s happening in your attic.
